Included component and hosts

One SPFx web part, three supported hosts

The solution package contains exactly one web part: Smarter Image Map. Its content and controls remain consistent in every supported host.

Modern SharePoint page

Use it as a web part in a section of a modern SharePoint page, alongside other page content.

SharePoint full-page

Use it as a Single Part App Page when the image map should fill an entire modern SharePoint page.

Microsoft Teams channel tab

Use it as a configurable tab in a Teams channel after syncing the app from the tenant App Catalog to Teams.

Not included: Smarter Image Map is not a Teams personal app and is not installed as a Teams Personal App.

Choose an image, draw areas, connect destinations

The editor guides content owners through the entire setup. Percentage-based coordinates keep every area aligned when the image scales.

  1. 1

    Choose an image from SharePoint

Use an existing file, organizational asset or OneDrive image, or upload a new one. Your content stays in your SharePoint site.

  2. 2

    Draw areas without code

Create rectangles, ellipses and free-form polygons. Move and resize areas using a mouse or keyboard.

  3. 3

    Set a link or drill-down

Connect an area to a SharePoint page, document, HTTPS address or another image map.

Move from overview to detail

Nested maps let you present processes, locations or system landscapes across several levels. People move from overview to detail inside the web part and use the breadcrumb to return.

Rich tooltips explain each area on pointer hover or keyboard focus. A title and description provide context before the link opens.

Easy to extend

Create detail maps when you need them. Existing links and areas remain unchanged.

Built-in tools or app?

When are Microsoft’s built-in tools enough?

SharePoint’s built-in tools display a single image well. Smarter Image Map becomes useful when the image itself needs to provide navigation.

The built-in tools are enough for this

  • A static diagram without clickable elements: the Image web part is enough.
  • A short list of links beside an image: the Quick Links web part covers it.
  • A linear sequence of steps: text and headings are often clearer.

This is what Smarter Image Map is built for

  • Clickable areas positioned precisely over image content
  • Rectangles, ellipses and polygons for different shapes
  • Visual drill-downs between overview and detail maps
  • Responsive positioning across desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Tooltips, keyboard navigation and visible focus

If the left column covers your case, you don’t need an app – you’ve already paid for the built-in tools. Smarter Image Map exists for everything on the right.

Microsoft Marketplace

Coming soon

Smarter Image Map is being prepared for the Microsoft Marketplace. Installation and purchase will become available after approval. The planned process:

  1. Microsoft approval

Microsoft reviews the SharePoint app and its licensing offer. We will add the Marketplace links to this page after approval.

  2. Install the app

A SharePoint administrator installs Smarter Image Map from the Marketplace and deploys the web part tenant-wide or to selected sites.

  3. Try and license

The 14-day trial starts on first use. Your organization then purchases the subscription from Microsoft and chooses the licensed SharePoint scope.

Microsoft will handle purchase and billing

After publication, your organization will manage the subscription through its existing Microsoft account. Smarter Business will not issue a separate invoice.

Purchase from Microsoft

Your organization purchases the subscription in the Microsoft Marketplace.

Invoice from Microsoft

Microsoft provides the invoice. Processing may take a short time after purchase.

A scope that fits

Planned options cover one, five or all site collections in a tenant.

Manage in Microsoft 365

Manage or cancel the subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Built for content owners, controlled by your IT team

  • SharePoint-native storage

Images and map definitions live in the current site’s Site Assets library. Map content is never sent to the licensing service.

  • Accessible interaction

Semantic links and buttons, visible focus, Escape-dismissable tooltips and numeric alternatives to dragging support relevant WCAG 2.2 AA interaction patterns.

  • Protection against accidental loss

A dedicated editing mode separates page editing from map changes. The web part warns before closing with unsaved changes.
